A0030: Resident rights

What a surveyor looks at

59A-36.007(5), F.A.C.

A0030 is resident rights and the home’s own procedures. Rule 59A-36.007(5) wants the Resident Bill of Rights posted where residents can see it, and the four complaint phone numbers posted near a resident phone in 14-point type or bigger. It also asks for house rules and a grievance procedure. So two of the four hang on a wall, not in a binder.

The rest of the rule is about how residents are treated. Nobody is made to work unpaid, and everybody gets a phone they can use in private. That’s why A0030 is one of the two tags that come up most in the serious citations at small homes.

The paper this tag asks for

There are 5 documents under this tag, and every home needs all of them. Having every one of them is not the same as passing a survey, because a surveyor also reads what’s in them and watches your home run.

What Alfie does here

We ask you to photograph both postings where they hang, and each photo carries the day it was taken, because it only proves the notice was up that day. The admission package, house rules and grievance procedure go in your home’s file.

How residents are treated isn’t something a record can show, and that’s where the serious citations under this tag come from.

If you’ve just been cited for A0030, the plan of correction is yours to write, and Alfie won’t write it for you. Where Alfie helps is the next survey, so the same paper isn’t missing again.
